📀 How to Install Linux

Step 1: Create Bootable USB with Ventoy

Ventoy is the easiest way to create a bootable USB. You can copy multiple ISO files to the same USB and boot from any of them!

📋 Instructions:

  1. Download Ventoy: Visit ventoy.net and download for Windows, Linux, or Mac
  2. Install to USB: Run Ventoy2Disk and select your USB drive (⚠ïļ This will erase all data!)
  3. Copy ISO files: After installation, simply copy your Linux .iso files to the USB drive like normal files
  4. Boot: Restart your computer and boot from USB - Ventoy will show a menu of all ISO files!

Step 2: Choose Desktop Environment

Most distros offer different "flavors" with different desktop environments. Here's what they mean:

ðŸ–Ĩïļ GNOME: Modern, clean interface. Great for touchpads. Used by Ubuntu, Fedora.
ðŸŽĻ KDE Plasma: Highly customizable, Windows-like. Beautiful and feature-rich.
ðŸŠķ XFCE/MATE: Lightweight, traditional. Perfect for older computers.
🍃 Cinnamon: Windows-like, beginner-friendly. Default for Linux Mint.

Step 3: Disable Secure Boot (if needed)

Some distros require Secure Boot to be disabled. Here's how:

  1. Enter BIOS/UEFI: Restart and press F2, F10, F12, or DEL during boot (depends on manufacturer)
  2. Find Security Tab: Look for "Secure Boot" option
  3. Disable it: Change from "Enabled" to "Disabled"
  4. Save & Exit: Usually F10 to save and restart

⚠ïļ Note: Ubuntu, Fedora, and some others work WITH Secure Boot enabled. Check your distro's documentation!

Step 4: Boot from USB & Install

Final step - let's boot into the installer!

  1. Insert USB: Plug in your Ventoy USB drive
  2. Restart computer: As it boots, press F12, F9, or ESC (depends on manufacturer) to open boot menu
  3. Select USB: Choose your USB drive from the list
  4. Choose ISO: Ventoy will show a menu - select your Linux distro
  5. Follow installer: Most installers are very user-friendly. Choose language, timezone, and create your user account
  6. Dual Boot (optional): If keeping Windows, the installer will detect it and let you install alongside

🎉 That's it! Welcome to Linux!
